October 12, 2020 Dear BCS Families, Yesterday we received notice that (2) students in our District have tested positive for COVID-19. As a result of this positive result we have placed our 6th and 2nd grades in quarantine until October 21, 2020. There were also some additional students in other grade levels who have to be quarantined because of being a close contact on a school bus or at other times during the school day. Each student/family impacted by this situation has been, or is in the process of being contacted directly by the school. The Steuben County Department of Health will also be reaching out to these families. In working closely with the Steuben County Department of Health we have determined that all other students and grade levels not directly affected by this situation can report to school as scheduled on Tuesday, October 13th. If you have not been contacted directly by the District please send your child to school tomorrow. Students who have to quarantine will be provided their instruction remotely and will be contacted by their teachers. The district will be providing devices and hotspots to these students as needed. Please know that all proper safety protocols were followed by the District and this has helped to minimize the impact of this situation. Our building has also been thoroughly cleaned since this past Friday. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school for information. Health related questions can be directed to our school nurse, Mrs. Miller, and general questions can be directed to our principal, Mrs. Ellison. Thank you for your understanding and support. Yours in education, John Marshall Superintendent

Please be advised all Bradford/Dundee soccer contests this weekend against Marcus Whitman have been postponed and will be rescheduled later this season. The away cross country meet in Waterloo is still scheduled to take place on Saturday. Thank you.

We are disappointed to announce that tonight's soccer match between the Bradford/Dundee varsity girls' soccer team and Marcus Whitman has been postponed due to a COVID related issue involving our opponent. This game we will rescheduled for later in the season.

Attached below is a letter outlining how the Bradford Central School District would operate in the event of brief or extended school closing. If our District ever had to be closed unexpectedly we would share this information with families and staff in the same manner we do for snow days. This letter can also be found on the District website under the School Reopening link. View the Remote Learning Letter: https://brdfrd.com/f7rb7

Last school year, the district requested your input to determine the availability of internet for all student homes. As the district continues to ensure that all students have reliable access to the internet, we are requesting that any student household that has limited or no internet service please complete this brief follow-up survey. If you already have internet service, you do not need to complete this survey. While conditions remain positive in our area and school district, we want to be as prepared as possible in the event we have to shift over to a remote learning model. Thank you for your response. https://brdfrd.com/hldkl

Dear Students, Parents and Staff, After consultation with our local public health department we will be making the following modification to our masking practice when in the hallway. We had previously only been requiring a mask to be worn when all of our students/staff would be moving between class periods or if they could not maintain 6 feet of social distance in the hall when a class was in session. We are now going to require a mask be worn at all times in the hallway even if 6 feet of social distance is present. The reason for this change is because even though 6 feet of distance may be present at a given moment, there is no guarantee this will stay this way if someone were to exit a classroom unexpectedly or walk around a corner. Thank you.

Mask in hall
September 19, 2020 Dear Students, Parents, Staff and Faculty, I wanted to share an update on our practice of masking when in the hallway. This is a change from the practice we had been implementing the first week of school, however, it is one we are being told to make. Anytime a student or staff member is in the hallway, regardless of the time of the day or number of people present, a mask MUST be worn at all times. Even though there are times when the hallway may be empty, there is no GUARANTEE that it will stay this way. It is this lack of guaranteed social distance that is the reason the mask MUST be worn at all times and not just when passing between class periods. The same practice needs to be applied in office areas or other community spaces. Please know we have gone to great lengths to create social distance in our classrooms so that masks can be removed during this period of time, however, in seeking clarification from our local Department of Health, they have advised that a hallway is not an area where a mask can be removed due to the inability to guarantee that social distance can be maintained. Please help us clarify this point with your child or colleague. Everyone has done a wonderful job helping to make the start of our school year a successful one. Let's all continue to do our part to ensure the safety and wellbeing of one another and to help make sure we can go through this school year without interruption. Yours in education, John R. Marshall Superintendent Bradford Central School District

Dear BCS Community, Attached is the latest guidance from the Steuben County Public Health Department regarding COVID procedures we must follow in school. This document was just received this afternoon and will replace the note from our nurse, Mrs. Miller, that was placed on our Facebook page and website earlier today. While we understand all of the updates and changes can be confusing, we were very pleased to receive the attached chart. The biggest change to guidance we now need to follow centers around the need for a negative COVID test if a child displays one of the eleven COVID symptoms. According to this latest guidance a child will no longer have to get a test in order to return to school. If a child does present a COVID symptom they can be taken to a doctor and be cleared to return to school. As a District we will need to see this note prior to allowing the child to return. While we understand this is still an added step, it does mean in most cases a child with a symptom of COVID will not likely have to be tested. Thank you.
