Dear BCS Families,
I hope this communication finds you all doing well and enjoying the summer season. Yesterday the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) released a document pertaining to the reopening of schools. We are expected to receive additional guidance from the NYS Department of Education (NYSED) on Wednesday. Planning for school reopening has already begun, however there are still many details that need to be coordinated and aligned to this recently released guidance.
As a District we will be required to submit a reopening plan to NYSED by July 31st. We have been told plans will be reviewed and approved/denied during the first week of August. As it currently stands, our region will reopen schools in September, provide we are experiencing less than a 5% positive COVID testing/infection rate. Today our region was at approximately a 1% infection rate.
Assuming schools do reopen, we will remain so, as long as the infection rate does not surpass 9%.
Please know when we talk about reopening it may be in the form of all students reporting each day, some students reporting on some days, or all students participating in their schooling remotely. The final reopening model will be determined based on our ability to adhere to guidelines and ultimately with the approval from NYS.
We will be sharing a survey very soon soliciting your input. Thank you for your patience, feedback and support of our District and children. Go Braves!
Yours in education,
John R. Marshall
Superintendent

YEARBOOK UPDATE: Our yearbook company has reached out to notify us that there are delays in the production and shipping of yearbooks nationwide due to COVID-19. Plants responsible for printing the books have been closed or short-staffed during this time. We will provide additional updates as we receive information on the shipment of the yearbook.
Also due to school closures, unfortunately the traditional experience of yearbook signing is not available to our students. In light of this, our yearbook company is offering a digital signing experience for all students who have purchased a yearbook. Students can sign up for this experience and send a unique link to their friends who can digitally sign their yearbook. At the conclusion of the digital signing experience, the district will print the digital pages and send them to students to be included in their yearbook. To sign up for the digital signing experience, please visit https://yearbooksigning.jostens.com to create an account.
Budget Vote Update- Absentee ballots can be dropped off at the school until 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 9th. Absentee ballots can now be accepted by mail until Tuesday, June 16th. Please note the distinction in dates between a hand delivered ballot and a mailed ballot. This new guidance was ordered by Governor Cuomo this afternoon. No election results will be known until after all mailed ballots are received on June 16th.
